umati – connecting the world of machine tools.

At the umati@METALEX special exhibit in the German pavilion..

..experience how umati realizes the simple and seamless flow of data between machine tools and software systems ..learn how data can be used to provide added value services ..listen to experts giving an insight into concepts, ideas and applications of umati for the benefit of various customer industries in the “umati@metalex forum”, which will take place twice daily.

About umati, the universal machine tool interface

Connectivity is key for manufacturing in the 21st century. It means getting data in and out of devices and software systems, seamlessly, easy, and secure.

For the requirements of the machine tool industry and its customers, umati tackles this issue as an open standard for machine tool users throughout the world. It serves to exploit new potentials for manufacturing of the future:

  • Simplify the effort for machine tool connection to customer-specific IT infrastructures and ecosystems.
  • Reduce costs through faster realization of customer specific projects.

umati was created in 2018 in a joint effort by VDW, the German machine tool builders’ association, and 17 partners. By today, more than 90 companies, associations and research institutions from all over the world support umati. During the world leading trade fair in metalworking, EMO Hannover 2019, this community displayed a connectivity demonstrator, connecting more than 100 machine tools and almost 30 added-value software services.

  • is part of a strong worldwide community
  • is developed by the machine tool industry with and for its customers
  • provides an OPC UA Companion Specification to integrate into the global interoperability standard OPC UA
  • enables individual mapping and transformation of parameters by standardized input for customer- or manufacturer-specific configurations of machine tools.
  • aims for global deployment right from the start
  • is free of license fees.
  • offers individually developed software components (to be licensed, if applicable).
