Technology description and functionality:
PM51 (Powder Metallurgical M51) HSS is a recent material which is designed to offer better performance compared to conventional M51 HSS. It lasts up to 15% to 30% longer and has around 50% greater chip resistance. Conventional M51 HSS is produced through traditional casting methods and contains coarse carbide arrangements, PM51 HSS is produced using powder metallurgy techniques, resulting in a more uniform microstructure with higher hardness, strength, and wear resistance.
Criteria:
- Development of Next-Generation Materials, Coatings & Tooling Systems
- Innovations Extending Tool Life, Performance & Application Range
- Solutions Enabling Processing of Advanced or Difficult Materials
