INDUSTRY NEWS

Amidst this situation in which we need protection from the vicious virus, 3D Printers have stepped in as one of the technologies that can fulfill this need. Recently, Thai Sakol Group Col, Ltd., put the 3D Printer capability to use by printing Face Shields and donating them to several medical institutes to assist our medical heroes.

This is one of the great examples of how technologies can help fight against COVID. We would like to commend and applaud Thai Sakol for this good deed they’ve done for the community.

Thai Aero Industry Launching to New Heights

Air travel has become more extensive and affordable which has made airline industry unstoppably thrive globally. As world air traffic is geographically reshuffling eastward, Asia-Pacific, with its robust economic growth, will account for 42% of global passenger traffic, with an extra 2.35 billion passengers annually.* Thailand, located at the heart of Southeast Asia with its well-developed infrastructure, is one of the fastest growing aviation markets in Asia-Pacific with IATA forecast estimated that the country will welcome 116 million new passengers for a total of 214 million by 2037.

MRO Sector and its Promising Future

The increase in passenger traffic will subsequently lead to rising new aircraft fleets as, in Asia-pacific, they are estimated to triple from 6,000 to 17,000 by 2036.** This will undoubtedly come with the need for engineering services especially maintenance, repair, and overhaul. To gear up for these upcoming opportunities, Thailand has been establishing itself to be an aerospace hub and the center of MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) services through the expansion of U-Tapao International Airport as part of the EECa (Eastern Economic Corridor of Aerotropolis) project, along with a wide range of incentives to attract investors and facilitate the growth of regional aerospace industry.

Soaring Demand for Aero Parts

Owing to the aforementioned factors, the MRO sector will be prospering and it will bring along a huge demand for aerospace parts and components in the coming years. Thailand is in a strong position to build on its existing advantages, be it strong business climate, attractive incentives, strategic location, or availability of skilled workforce. To respond to the need of advanced and complex production, the utilization of high-precision technologies is vitally important, and METALEX will take center stage to serve those technology needs

Aluminium is Taking the Manufacturing Industry by Storm

The evolution of manufacturing industry has made aluminium indispensable for its high-performance applications. The industries such as automotive, construction, electronics, and aerospace heavily rely on lightweight, high strength, and corrosion resistant components which are made possible with aluminium. The material has, therefore, flourished in the global industry especially in Asia as can be seen in a future market insights report which states that the Asian aluminium market is expected to grow 4.5% CAGR by 2029. Aluminium is playing a vital role in Asia Pacific region as well with a Market Research Future Analysis report shows that 63.6% of its market share is currently owned by the region.

Thailand Requires Aluminium for its High-Tech Growth

Thailand is elevating its industrial capabilities with a myriad of support schemes. The country has set its new target industries (named S-curve industries), including Next – Generation Automotive, Smart Electronics, Aviation and Logistics, and Medical Devices to be the New Engine of Growth. Coupled with an ongoing project; EEC (Eastern Economic Corridor) with its mega infrastructure being expanded and developed to accommodate high-tech industries, all of which require the implementation of aluminium, and this material will gain even much more popularity in years to come.

EEC Expansion Attracts High-Precision Metalworking Demands

As Thailand is on a path to elevate its high-tech industries, EEC (Eastern Economic Corridor) is a mega project appointed to be a hub for technological manufacturing and services in the future. A new industrial cluster including Next-Generation Automotive, Smart Electronics, Digital, and Aerospace, among others, are named S-curve industries and established to be the New Engine of Growth in Thailand. So, these industries have been supported a number of supporting funds from Thailand’s Board of Investment (BOI) and have attracted investment applications totaling 9.18 billion USD at the beginning of this year.

In addition to the support schemes, the integrated transportation consisting of land, sea, air has been developed and expanded to seamlessly connect the area with ASEAN neighbors, be it highways & motorways, double-track railway & high-speed railway linking 3 major airports (Suvarnabhumi, Don mueang, and U-Tapao); Laem Chabang & Map Ta Put sea ports phrase 3, Sattahip commercial sea port; and U-Tapao airport.

Developments Igniting Technology Demands

The ongoing mega infrastructure projects development and high-tech industry investment mean a growing demand for high-precision metalworking to supply its expansion. Machine tools and metalworking solutions will be needed to manufacture more advanced and complex structures, component parts, and products, as well as raising a bar of productivity and capability for Thai manufacturing and supporting industries in the long run. The question is, where can industrialists find these sought-after technologies?

To answer this question, METALEX will continue to be a central platform of metalworking community where technology providers will gather to demonstrate their cutting-edge applications and meet face-to-face with over 100,000 technology adopters. Business opportunities will abound in the annual networking event of the industry, complemented by year-round promotions and business matchmaking.

If you are a technology provider that desires to leverage the emerging opportunities in Thailand and ASEAN, METALEX 2020, held during 18-21 November, will be an event that you cannot afford to miss.

5G Is Happening! Manufacturing to Reach the Next Advancement

5G technology is considered a key influence and a force driving Smart Manufacturing by boosting hardware and sensor capabilities, as well as solving the shortage of labor. In addition, it will enable the Internet of Things (IoT) that will effectively connect equipment with Internet, leading to more advanced applications in production line where equipment can be controlled from a remote area.

Recently, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) announced that Thailand may soon be the first country in ASEAN to adopt the 5th Generation Wireless Systems (5G). After 2-year preparation for the infrastructure, the latest timeline has been revealed that 5G auction will be conducted on 16 February 2020. And the winner must provide 5G service within July 2020.

Manufacturing industry in Thailand can expect a new wave of advancement as 5G will unlock new potentials and possibilities. To serve the growing demand of 5G-based technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart Sensors, METALEX 2020 will be the most comprehensive gathering platform of over 4,000 game-changing technologies from 50 countries, combining with international connections and crucial knowledge to keep you up ahead in the industrial world, and tackle any challenges that modern manufacturing may bring.

IMPORTANT NOTE!

METALEX”  is open to trade visitors only. Please dress in business attire. Those wearing shorts and/or sandals and minors under the age of 15 will not be permitted into the exhibition hall. The organizer reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone without cause or explanation.
